Family photos should not feel like checking something off your to do list. In fact, the best Cleveland family photos are often part of a full day together. A day that feels joyful, relaxed, and memorable for everyone involved.

One of my favorite ways to make family photo sessions feel easier for little ones and more meaningful for parents is to plan something fun afterward. Having a treat stop, a walk by the lake, or a family outing to look forward to helps children stay excited and turns your session into a real family experience.
If you are planning Cleveland family photos and wondering how to keep the fun going after your session, here are some of my favorite local spots for dessert, adventure, and quality family time!

There is something about ending a photo session with ice cream or pastries that feels celebratory. As a mom I know just as well as any parent, that kids love having something special to look forward to. For some littles photos can feel stressful or boring, so having a bright light at the end of the tunnel (in treat form) can really help during your session.
Here are my favorite sweet treat stops near Cleveland:
One of the most classic Cleveland stops after family photos is Mitchell’s Ice Cream. Their Ohio City location is especially fun because kids can sometimes watch the ice cream being made, and the atmosphere feels like an experience in itself.
If your session is downtown or near Edgewater, Mitchell’s makes a perfect next stop. It is casual, family friendly, and always a hit!

If your family photos take place around University Circle or Little Italy, Presti’s Bakery is such a charming option. Their Italian desserts, cookies, and pastries feel a little elevated while still being kid friendly.
I especially love recommending Presti’s for summer and fall sessions when you can grab dessert and stroll through the neighborhood.

For families wanting something playful and unexpected, Brewnuts is always fun! They pride themselves in having Cleveland’s most unique and delicious donuts. From seasonal favorites to their core donuts with classic flavors, there is sure to be a treat for everyone!
These creative donuts feel celebratory and make for a memorable end to your session. Plus, they are a small business created by locals. So you can feel good about supporting our community.

Many of the best Cleveland family photo locations are already close to places worth exploring. Instead of heading straight home, consider letting the day unfold a little longer.
Edgewater Park is one of my favorite places to recommend after a session, and for so many reasons! You have so much in one location:
If your session happens nearby, staying to let the kids run in the sand or collect rocks often becomes one of those simple moments you’ll be sure to remember.

Wade Lagoon feels especially magical in summer and fall. The gardens, water, and architecture make it beautiful for photos, but it is also wonderful for a post-session stroll. You can walk the paths, watch ducks, explore the surrounding museums, and slow down together.
For little ones who need movement after sitting for photos, this is such an easy and beautiful option.
Another favorite for families wanting more outdoor time is Huntington Reservation. It offers another beach option with grassy areas, walking trails, and room for kids to roam.
It feels relaxed and easy, which often matches the energy families want after a session.

If your family wants to extend the day but prefers something indoors, Cleveland has incredible options.
The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of my favorite places to recommend, especially after sessions near Wade Lagoon. It is beautiful, free to visit, and surprisingly engaging for children. Even a short visit can make your photo day feel special.
I personally love combining an outdoor session with museum time because it gives kids a mix of movement and exploration.

The newly reimagined Cleveland Museum of Natural History is another wonderful stop, especially for dinosaur loving kids. The museum has a constant change in upcoming events and programs, making it a great tradition for yearly family photos without becoming redundant. It turns your session into a true family outing instead of just an appointment.
For younger children especially, the Greater Cleveland Aquarium can be such a fun follow up. There is something about letting kids see sharks and colorful fish after family photos that feels like the perfect reward. It’s low sensory, calming and a great way for both parents and kids to unwind.

One thing I encourage families to think about is making annual family photos feel like a tradition, not a task. Maybe every year after your Cleveland family photos you stop for Mitchell’s. Or maybe your tradition is walking Edgewater beach together. No matter what you choose to do, having traditions matter.
Traditions give children positive memories connected to family photos, which makes future sessions easier and more meaningful. Plus, it builds a sense of belonging and identity in young children. So that in years from now, those traditions will become part of the story your photographs hold.

When it comes to family photos, the experience matters as much as the images. Booking Cleveland family photos with me is the easy and joyful experience you need.
Whether that means helping choose a location like Edgewater or Wade Lagoon. Or helping plan around dinner in Little Italy or a post-session ice cream stop. The goal is never just pretty photos. It is creating an experience your family actually enjoys.
